India Student Visas
Studying in India requires all non-Indian nationals to obtain a place on a course of study at a recognized Indian educational institution. An Indian study visa is issued for the duration of the course or for a maximum of five years and is normally valid only for the specified course at the sponsoring institution.

Indian Study Visa Benefits
Indian study visas can be for either a single entry or multiple entries to India and may be valid for up to five years, depending on the specific needs of each case. Although the grant of leave depends primarily on the duration of the course, no limit is placed upon the amount of consecutive courses which may be completed, so long as the overall duration does not exceed five years. Although study visas do not grant the right to study in India per se and are issued for study at the specified institution, in some circumstances it may be possible to switch institution or course with permission from the local Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).
Applying for an Indian Study Visa – Eligibility Criteria
The key requirement for making an Indian study visa application is that a candidate must have received a definite offer of a place on a course at a recognized educational institution in India. Full details of the course and the institution will need to be submitted as part of the application. A letter of admission will be required and in cases where this cannot be made available, a provisional student visa will be granted for three months during which time the candidate must provide confirmation of admission. A provisional study visa for India is not extendable and if confirmation is not provided within three months the applicant will be obliged to leave India.
All applicants must have a current passport from their country of residence which must be valid for a minimum of six months. For candidates who wish to embark upon a medical course, it will also be necessary to contact the Ministry of Health in order to obtain a letter of approval or a certificate of no objection. Engineering and technical students must gain similar approval from the Department of Education.
Spouse and Dependent Immigration
In India, study visa applicants may be accompanied by their spouse and or dependents. Although student visas are issued as a temporary immigration service, they may potentially see a candidate residing in India for a lengthy period which may be up to five years. As a result the applicant’s dependents will be able to join them in India and will be granted leave to remain in India for the same duration as that awarded to the principle applicant.
