India Work Visas

In India, work permit applications are subject to less specific requirements than similar working visa services in many other countries. Indian work permits do not impose such well defined requirements upon applicants as a UK work permit or US work permit, however, all foreign nationals who wish to live and work in India must obtain a work permit to do so. Although a work permit can be submitted by the individual applicant outside India, the usual route involves a sponsoring Indian employer applying on behalf of the candidate(s) they wish to bring to India.

Global Visas specialise in providing corporate immigration solutions for Indian businesses who wish to source personnel overseas. Our specialist immigration consultants obtain Indian work permits and Intra Company Transfers and the progress of your work permit applications can be monitored throughout. Applying for an Indian Work Permit

In most cases, foreign nationals applying for an Indian work permit will need to be sponsored by an Indian company to perform a specific position of employment. Applicants will need to be in possession of a current and valid passport from their country of residence and in addition a range of other documentary evidence will be required including proof of residence and written confirmation of the position being offered. Unlike a long term business visa which only allows a candidate to work in India under very limited terms, a work permit allows a candidate to continuing living and working in India and may be extended in increments of one year as required.

Applying for an Indian Intra Company Transfer Visa

The Intra Company Transfer (ICT) is a particularly useful form of Indian Work permit which allows an Indian company to transfer employees from international branches or subsidiaries of the company. This visa service facilitates the movement of crucial employees with valuable experience of a company’s products or services to relocate to India in order to fulfil a particular role. As with Indian work permits in general, the guidelines of Indian ICTs are loosely defined and Indian visas of this class are granted on a case-by case basis. Ultimately the granting of an Indian intra company transfer visa will be at the discretion of the Indian migration officer and will take into account the ability and availability of any existing native Indian workers to fill a position. However, generally, applicants are expected to have a suffice level of education; normally a four-year university degree is preferred.

Spouse Immigration and Dependent Immigration

In India, work permits offer the potential to remain in the country for a period of several years and as such provision is made for the immediate family members of the applicant to join them in the country. Dependents are permitted to enter India with the principle applicant and remain in the country for the same duration. However, dependents wishing to take up employment in India will need to successfully obtain an Indian working permit in their own right.
